Madame Onassis Got Nothin' On You

An early rockumentary, showing where Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, and the rest of The Faces got their raunchy and rebellious image, providing an "excess all areas" pass to the kind of backstage high-jinks that got the seventies such a bad name. Hold on to your hollyhocks!

That's fucking unbelievable.

The Wombles were my first favourite band, according to my parents. They were green, which is probably similar to Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood in the morning.

Worryingly, this sounds like the Wonderstuff. In my memory, it was much more of a glam stomper.

Also, this film is very reminiscent of the 'Tommy' film, from what's probably afterwards.

Actually, if only after leaving the Faces, Rod Stewart had chosen the Wombles as his backing band, he could have been as successful as Roger Whittaker and the Smurfs.

Roger Whittaker and the Smurfs unbelievably yields no Google hits. Did I just make this up?

Sadly, this video turns out to be from 1998, when the song was rereleased. Here are the clues:

That's a modern-looking copy of The Times, albeit pre-tabloid. Might be Blair on the cover;

modern police uniforms;

security guards wearing earpieces;

secuirty guard who looks like Robbie Williams;

there is a digital video camera being brandished during the news conference;

modern-looking news studio....

Fuck me, I clearly wouldn't be much cop in the Krypton Factor's Observation Round.
